One term you left out was 花筏, particularly dear to my heart because my second favorite hanami excursion (after 砧公園) was to Megurogawa, from Hwy 246 down to Nakameguro and sometimes farther south. The one drawback is the dearth of sitting places. What's hanami without a picnic?
Thank you!!! I have an essay I wrote a long time ago on my old blog Tang Dynasty Times that links picnics and the spring equinox (and Nowruz) --for me, it is essential. Is 花筏 used much in Japanese at all? I love it. It is new for me... I found this https://idea1616.com/hanaikada/ There are so many flower words... because I arrived in Japan as the sakura started blooming, the first Japanese I learned were flower related... I still love thinking how I started with flowers... Maynard, thank you so much for leaving this comment. It was really sweet of you!
Next year, how about quotes from my Cherry Blossom Epiphany? (Over 3000 cherry blossom haiku in one or more translations, not to mention the original, taxed into 65 chapters).
Thank you, Just noticed responses for the past year! Thank you for getting two of my bks. Both were finished while caring for one of my sisters & her old dogs and . . . Wished i had the support needed to do the whole series of haiku bks as i read far more than Blyth & cudda given the world a fuller saijiki but i came to realize it was more important to share what i've learned w/ japanese. AND, to keep sharp, i dove into kyouka & now am trying to find a publisher to do two huge series -- i feel it is the only way to get japanese to read enuf old poems to regain some fluency. Those 100 poems will not do the trick. BTW, i have spent time on both Chichijima and Hahajima -- did you marry into those islands?

One of your most deeply touching.
Thank you so much, sweetheart! This is actually from memoir — so I’m really happy you said that.
