I love what you say about haiku giving voice to nature and unbounded ink painting of things as they are. And your exposition of I in western thought. William Blake once said we need to cleanse the doors of perception and let reality flood in. Our whole life is made up of moments. Everything happens now, nothing happens outside of now . And our moments are utterly complete just as they are. All we need to do is get out of the way. As13th century Zen Master Dogen observed, “When the self withdraws, the ten thousand things advance; when the self advances, the ten thousand things withdraw.”

That is an absolutely beautiful way of illuminating concept. Thank you so much for this wonderful comment it was written so beautifully. I love what you said about all we need to do is get out of the way. Probably what han was attempting to do is explain that without pronouns or without all of the concepts that are in bedded in the language itself. I still think my very favorite book on Zen philosophy is the one by David Hinton that I linked to above.

Can't wait for your 3QD essay!!! And thinking about the discussion in Noh acting (discussed in "Kissing the Mask" ) - - there is no underlying and generative character "beneath" the "outward" presenting character in the play.
